VoltSpott App

Overview

VoltSpott is a cross-platform mobile and tablet application that helps EV drivers plan trips with real-time charging station insights, battery-aware routing, and intuitive trip visualization.

My Role

On this project I acted as Product Owner, Researcher, and Designer as this is a net new idea I wore many hats.

Problem Statement

While EV adoption is increasing, users struggle with:

  • Finding charging stations along routes

  • Managing battery levels across long trips

  • Understanding how detours affect ETA and charge

  • Clunky, non-intuitive charger maps

EV drivers need a tool that integrates vehicle battery data with live charging infrastructure and provides real-time, decision-ready guidance.

Our Goals

Relieve stressors:Eliminate range anxiety and make EV road travel seamless.

Brand awareness + adoption: Create an iconic brand that is as innovative as its subject matter. Bold colors and fullscreen visuals.

Research

Methods:

  • Interviews with 10 EV drivers (Tesla, Rivian, Lucid, Porsche EV)

  • Competitive analysis of existing tools (e.g., PlugShare, A Better Route Planner)

  • Survey with 100+ responses from EV communities

Findings:

  • 80% feel anxious when battery drops below 30% without a visible nearby charger.

  • Most drivers want automated rerouting to avoid manual station hunting.

  • Users prefer dark mode, especially for night driving.

  • Efficiency and simplicity matter more than cluttered data.

Key Insights

  • 65% of users use more than one app to make daily plans (e.g., calendar, shopping, fitness).

  • Users want recommendations, not just data.

  • Users are overwhelmed by app clutter and crave focused, calming interfaces.
